Eating Disorder Treatment
An eating disorder often starts as a harmless desire to look good and feel better about yourself. But before you know it, a tremendous toll can be taken on your self-confidence, your relationships and your ability to live your life. It can consume your thoughts, cause you to distance yourself from the people and experiences you love most and, ultimately, destroy your health.
When you or someone you love struggles with an eating disorder, hope can be hard to see—but it is there, and we want to help you find it.
Comprehensive care
At Rogers, we are committed to quality and innovative approaches with demonstrated outcomes for eating disorders. We’ve helped thousands of individuals successfully travel the road to resilience, even when complex and co-occurring disorders are involved.
Our experienced and dedicated team of psychiatrists, psychologists, internal medicine physicians, registered nurses, social workers, registered dietitians, behavioral specialists, experiential therapists and others work together to guide children, teens and adults—of all genders—through individualized eating disorder treatment plans to overcome:
- Anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa
- Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) (Rogers' Los Angeles clinic now offers a Severe Picky Eating Recovery program for children, teens, and adults)
- Other specified or unspecified eating disorders, such as atypical anorexia, purging disorder, orthorexia nervosa, and night eating syndrome
- Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)
- Eating disorders in conjunction with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, depression or trauma (posttraumatic stress disorder/PTSD), body-focused repetitive behavioral (BFRB) disorders, such as hair-pulling and skin-picking
We provide a wide continuum of treatment with eating disorder inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient care for ages 8 and up. Patients, families, and treatment teams work together to determine length of programs based on individual progress and situations at our eating disorder treatment center.
Our treatment approach
Through our physician-directed eating disorders treatment, we work with you or your child on nutritional rehabilitation and, if needed, restoring your weight. You will undergo thorough psychological, medical, nursing, nutritional and social services assessments which your team uses to guide a comprehensive treatment plan specific to your needs.
Our therapeutic approach is evidence-based and proven to work demonstrated by outcome studies. Patient and family education is part of all treatment plans. We involve families for better long-term results, and families are invited to attend on-site sessions throughout treatment.
In addition to medical management, you or your child will work with the entire treatment team in following an intensive cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) model with an emphasis on graduated exposure and response prevention (ERP). The use of CBT and ERP has outstanding outcomes with patients achieving and maintaining gains over a long period of time.
In vivo exposure therapy also gives patients the chance to go into the community and apply their treatment as they encounter real-life experiences. This approach helps:
- Achieve nutritional stabilization
- Recognize and correct unhealthy thought and behavior patterns related to eating, body image or exercise
- Effectively identify and address co-occurring conditions
- Build resilience for long-term recovery
Behavioral activation (BA) helps those with co-morbid mood disorders re-engage in life while experiential therapy including horticultural, recreational and art therapy can help you strengthen coping skills and connect and express your thoughts in many ways.
