Understanding Why People Self-Harm

Dr. Erik Ulland, medical director of the Nashotah Center for DBT Adolescent Resident Care, helps us understand why someone may hurt themselves as a way to cope with severe emotional distress, depression, and other mood or mental health disorders. Patients struggling with self-harm behaviors are often treated with dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
