When a child’s mental health or addiction challenges require specialized care, a common concern is not wanting the student to fall behind in school.
“We have an educational liaison,” says Christopher Takala, DO, medical director and child and adolescent psychiatrist in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. “With the family’s permission, the liaison notifies the school that a child is going to be participating in treatment and coordinates appropriate academic support.”
