Overcoming Trauma and Alcohol | Tajuanna's Story

Tajuanna had been struggling with the effects of childhood traumas for many years without even realizing it, eventually turning to alcohol as a coping mechanism. It wasn't until her sister convinced her to seek help at Rogers Behavioral Health that she began to rise above a variety of mental health challenges. Rogers understands how damaging trauma can be to someone's well-being and has the experience and proven-effective, evidence-based trauma treatment to help. Treatment plans are specifically designed for each patient's specific needs. Rogers' Trauma Recovery Care is based on a proven-effective method that helps reduce anxiety related to the traumatic event.

During treatment, patients may participate in all or some of the following:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) teaches adolescents skills to cope with distressing thoughts and feelings and emphasizes making the parent or guardian an active component of treatment.
  • Prolonged exposure (PE)
  • Behavioral activation (BA)
  • Art and yoga/movement therapy

Family involvement is a key part of recovery that allows for more effective treatment and eases the transition after treatment.
