"Having OCD can be extremely isolating. Rogers helped me see that I was not alone.
At Rogers, I was able to meet like-minded people and most importantly, was gifted the recovery tools to help treat my disorder. I wasn't cured or "fixed" which is what most people hope for.
However, the lessons learned and the tools taught are what has sustained me over this past year. I want people to really understand that the power to change lies within them once they understand and are more knowledgeable about how to treat their mental health struggles.
Awareness is key! I am now aware of my triggers and know how to prevent myself from getting sucked into the trap cycle of OCD. Also, I no longer feel isolated or isolate myself from the world. In fact, I started a relapse prevention COCD virtual support group for life after treatment.
Although I am recovering, I'm able to live a much more manageable life while still living "with" my disorder. It takes hard work as it wasn't/isn't easy by far, but I cannot believe how far I've come. I'm proud of myself ... something I never would have said a year ago.
I'm ready to shout to the world, "Life won't always be like this! Trust me! With the right tools, a manageable life is possible!!'"
