When a child’s mental health or addiction challenges require specialized care, a common concern is not wanting the student to fall behind in school.

Since opening its doors in August 2021, the Ladish Co. Foundation Center has provided a restful and stigma-free space on Rogers’ Oconomowoc campus for patients, their loved ones, and community members to gather.

As a child, Stephanie, recalls that talking about mental health was discouraged. Then when she began to struggle with her own mental health and sought treatment at Rogers, she realized how deeply that stigma was embedded in her.

The supportive living space in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, can house 12 people who are currently receiving mental health or addiction treatment in an intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization program. It will allow people to focus on their recovery journey and practice self-care such as hygiene, life, or vocational skills to help them transition into the next stage of their recovery.

Oftentimes assumed to be big city issues, a recent report is shedding light on the impact of mental health and addiction in rural communities.
