Whether it’s with your time, energy, or resources, we all have boundaries. During the holidays, it’s essential to set your limits and stick to them.
This time of year, we can feel more pressure than usual. Shopping, wrapping, cooking, spending, socializing, and entertaining can push people past their boundaries, and that’s when negative feelings and actions can arise.
“Setting boundaries can be tough because there’s a common fear of upsetting others or feeling like you’re letting yourself down,” says Nicholas Mahoney, DO, Psychiatrist, OCD, Anxiety, and Depression Center, Adult Residential Care. “It’s so important to know your boundaries so you can effectively communicate them and express to others what you need.”
Self-care is also important. When your mental and physical health are in a good place, it will help you reach your boundary-setting goals.
Focus on the positive parts of the holidays, hold firm to your boundaries, and let those moments lift your energy.
