While in high school, Shannon says pursuing perfectionism through sports contributed to an eating disorder. Growing concern about Shannon’s weight ultimately led her to residential treatment at Rogers.
“That was really cool and helpful to understand I wasn’t the only person who was experiencing this”, Shannon says.
For years after treatment, Shannon felt like she was doing well. While trying on wedding dresses she had a bad experience that triggered a relapse. She pursued care at a different treatment program, but she didn’t feel the same way she did when she left Rogers the first time. “I just kinda felt like I was still stuck,” she says.
Shannon returned to Rogers for residential treatment a second time and left feeling like she was ready to start her adult life. “Rogers really gave me a second chance at life. I always told my treatment team, you guys saved me, and they’d always say, ‘No, you saved yourself. We just guided you along the way.’”
