How PTSD treatment helped Himanshu begin healing

Traumatic experiences lead Himanshu to seek PTSD therapy

Himanshu remembers his childhood as a special time, though it was not without moments of trauma.

Himanshu completed medical school in India and came to the U.S. to specialize in psychiatry. As a mental health professional, he felt equipped to handle his own mental health struggles. But as he continued to battle PTSD symptoms, he realized that despite his professional background, even those who help others sometimes need help themselves.

“’Physician heal thyself’ to me now means physician, make sure that you’re humble enough to find the help you need to start the healing process,” Himanshu says.

Even though he felt afraid, ashamed, and hopeless, he reached out for help – and is glad he did.

“I’m not saying don’t be afraid,” he says. “It’s okay to be afraid. I was terrified. But do it anyway.”
