Breaking Down Stigma | Kendra's Story
After struggling since childhood with fear of others rejecting her while at the same time rejecting herself, Kendra drove her car into trees. Her family knew she needed help for her anxiety and depression, so they made the trek from Canada to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for Kendra to receive care at the Nashotah Center for DBT Female Adolescent Residential Care.
She was afraid what her high school peers would think of her when she returned home. But Kendra shared her story, and realized people wanted to talk about their own mental health struggles.
"We've come such a long way that getting help isn't a bad thing anymore," says Kendra. "Someone just needs to start the conversation."
