With a patient sharing how lucky they are to have been cared for by her, Nicole Bauer was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A registered nurse for the Eating Disorder Recovery residential program at Rogers in Oconomowoc, Nicole was honored at a Feb. 25 award ceremony, which was also broadcast over Teams. Here are some examples of what the patient had to say about Nicole and the care they received from her:
“I felt like I could tell Nicole anything. She is such a good listener. People are drawn to her for her bright personality and contagious laughter. She is a comfortable presence. Nicole was vital to my recovery.”
“One of the hardest things I’ve ever done is go to treatment, but Nicole made it easier by finding ways to smile and laugh through the hard days. Nicole took great care of me, and I will always wish her the best. I am so lucky to have been cared for by her.”
This is the seventh time Rogers has given a DAISY award to a deserving nurse. The international recognition program celebrates skillful, compassionate care by nurses who demonstrate acts of kindness and sensitivity, as well as exemplifying empathy and integrity.
Recognizing our honorees
During this most recent award period, 32 nurses received nominations. That includes our second- and third-place honorees, who are Haley White, registered nurse, depression recovery, adolescent residential care, Oconomowoc, and Kaylee Schleicher, registered nurse, mental health recovery, adult services, Sheboygan, respectively. Here are a couple of excerpts from their nominations.
“Since joining our team, Haley has brought so much positivity to her role. She really goes above and beyond to care for our residents. Haley is always ready to learn and improve too, which shows in the questions she asks and the ways she supports the other members of the team.”
“Kaylee has gone above and beyond for her patients and for her co-workers. She has been an inspirational sounding board for co-workers when they are having down days or are feeling overwhelmed. Patients at our clinic have often gone out of their way to tell their therapists how kind and caring she is towards them as well. She fully embodies the Rogers spirit, attitude and dedication to our patients, peers and community overall.”

Nominate a nurse for a future DAISY award
Rogers is among more than 5,000 healthcare organizations and schools of nursing worldwide committed to honoring exemplary nurses through the DAISY Award program.
Nurses are nominated by anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care: current and former patients, family members, fellow nurses, physicians, clinicians, and other employees.
Winners are selected throughout the year by an internal committee from various disciplines at Rogers. Employee names, locations, and programs are removed from the nomination. The committee is asked to vote for their top five nominees, and a re-vote is taken, if necessary, to narrow down the top three.
The next round of nominations is open now. Nominations, including a detailed account of why the nurse is deserving of the honor, may be submitted at by clicking here.
