Medical Director, Oconomowoc Campus and Eating Disorder Recovery, Psychiatrist

Brad E. R. Smith, MD, is a full-time psychiatrist and serves as the medical director for Rogers' Oconomowoc campus as well as the medical director of Eating Disorder Recovery. He is board-certified in adult psychiatry and forensic psychiatry, specializing in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders and other complex or multiple mental health diagnoses. Dr. Smith joined Rogers in 2011, seeing patients in the inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs, helping patients learn evidence-based techniques for building resilience for recovery.

Prior to joining Rogers, Dr. Smith served as assistant medical director and forensic clinical director at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison. He has also maintained an active forensic psychiatry consulting practice. His administrative experience includes the training and clinical direction of other behavioral health clinicians, as well as the development of clinical treatment programming for hospital systems.

In addition to his leadership roles at Rogers, Dr. Smith serves as a voluntary assistant clinical professor in the Medical College of Wisconsin’s psychiatry and behavioral medicine department, where he teaches residents and fellows.

Dr. Smith received his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Smith completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, where he was chief resident during his final year, followed by a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association, and the Wisconsin Medical Society. He has lectured to professional and community audiences around the nation on eating disorders and a wide range of mental health topics, including peer-selected presentations for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) annual meetings.
