Patrick Michaels, PhD

Clinical director, Psychologist

Patrick Michaels, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical director at Rogers Behavioral Health in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Michaels supervises the delivery of cognitive behavioral therapy in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for adult and adolescent patients with depression, addiction, OCD, and eating disorders. He trains, coaches, and develops staff and trainees in providing evidence-based treatments.

Dr. Michaels received his Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He then received his Master of Science in clinical psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, where he also received his Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Michaels completed a pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also completed his post-doctoral clinical psychology interprofessional residency in Community Inclusion of the Severely Mental Ill.

Prior to joining Rogers, Dr. Michaels was program manager for Mental Health Intensive Case Management and Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center at the Tennessee Valley Health System Department of Veterans Affairs in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Dr. Michaels has specialized in providing recovery-oriented services for people with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. His research interests include mental illness stigma, psychiatric rehabilitation, and community inclusion. He has published two book chapters, five first author publications, and co-authored sixteen publications. He is a member of the American Psychological Association.
