Small acts of kindness make big difference through Kubly’s second annual penny war

Small gestures – like small coins – can go a long way.

As part of their second annual Penny War, Kubly team members formed three teams that competed over 30 days to raise the most points through pennies and non-perishable food items, all while sabotaging other teams with hygiene products, quarters, nickels, and dimes.

“At the end, the winners received bragging rights and all donations were given to the Oconomowoc Food Pantry,” says Matthew Kimmel, behavioral specialist.

The Kubly Care Committee has collected 27 food items, 13 hygiene products, and $57.86 in cash and coin – including the oldest penny donated, minted in 1927.

“Not only does our Penny War foster some good-natured fun and camaraderie, but it also connects us to our local community and reminds us that every act of kindness, no matter how small, is a way of honoring the humanity we all share,” Matthew says. “Our hope is these annual Penny Wars help ensure that no one in our community faces hardship alone.”
