Rogers collaborates with Ascension to share behavioral health knowledge with next generation of physicians
Rogers Behavioral Health collaborates with the Ascension Family Medicine Residency Program, extending its expertise to equip future primary care physicians with crucial behavioral health knowledge. As part of this collaboration, Rogers employees, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and other clinicians provide monthly speaking engagements to the family medicine residents.
These sessions cover a range of behavioral health topics relevant to a primary care setting, such as genetics in mental health, behavioral health continuum, depression, OCD and anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, overview of psychopharmacology, and trauma. Family medicine residents have also taken a tour of our Brown Deer Campus.
“This regular training is vital,” says Heather Parker, manager of Community Partnerships. “It helps family medicine residents integrate behavioral health care into their practice, thereby advancing the collective goal of destigmatizing mental health and providing holistic, patient-centered care for all members of the community.”
Rogers thanks the following team members for lending their time and expertise to Ascension Family Residency Students: Dr. Sheldon Garrison, Dr. Amanda Heins, Dr. Carly Wallace, Dr. Rebekah Scott, Dr. Sam Cares, Dr. Chris Takala, Dr. Sarah Lee, Jen Parra Nelsen, Dr. Brenda Bailey and Jennifer Ellis.
“It’s an honor to meet with Ascension’s family residents to discuss mental health treatments,” Dr. Takala says. “Given the ongoing shortage of mental health providers across our state and our country, sharing knowledge to the next generation of family medicine physicians will help equip them with the tools to screen, diagnose, and initiate lifesaving treatment. Furthermore, I hope it leads towards bridging gaps in care and fosters ongoing partnerships between organizations to address the needs of our communities.”
