‘I’ll always be thankful’: Former Oconomowoc ED patient shares gratitude for inpatient team

In honor of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we are sharing one story about how treatment can make all the difference.

Saying he struggled with mental health and binge eating for most of his life, a former Oconomowoc patient came to Rogers without hope.

“I just wanted to thank the Rogers team for all the help they gave me while I was at the facility. For a while, I wasn’t the most cooperative patient, but they still didn’t give up on me. I came to Rogers with a binge eating disorder that I had basically no control over. After I was discharged, I was able to use what I learned to start making positive changes in my life. It’s been about a year since I was at the Oconomowocfacility and my weight is down, my binge eating is for the most part under control, and both my mental and physical health are doing much better. The team at Rogers basically saved my life. I still have my bad days, but they are far outnumbered by the good days. I’ll always be thankful to the staff at Rogers for putting up with me and helping me regain control over my life.”

Dr. Peter DeVries, MD, medical director, Adult Inpatient and Residential Eating Disorder Recovery, says commitment to recovery made the difference.

“He was very receptive to the psychoeducation we provided, put a lot of hard work into his treatment, and was able to make very nice progress with us in adult inpatient for eating disorders. I’m glad it stuck, and that he is mentally and physically better!”
