‘The whole clinic felt seen’: Care packages bring connection across the country

Finding a unique and fun way to bond with team members cross-country, sites in Service Area C took one creative idea and ran with it.

“We’re geographically really diverse,” says Gretchen Sullivan, director of operations in Seattle. “But I also think our clinic cultures are really diverse, so the idea was trying to send some of our clinic’s vibes, energy, and culture to each other.”

In the true spirit of One Rogers, the six Service Area C sites decided on a care package exchange directly connecting pairs: Seattle and Miami; Atlanta and Tampa; and Nashville and Philadelphia each sent their new sister sites items that uniquely represented their teams and locations.

“Teams really put a lot of thought into it,” Gretchen says. “When the package arrived, people were following me into my office to see it opened. The mood was electric.”

Seattle’s care package from Miami included everything needed to make Cuban coffees with instructions.

“The cortaditos were fantastic,” Gretchen says. “The whole clinic felt seen and like the team in Miami really appreciates us.”

She says the Seattle team wracked their brains to find items they love they could share with Miami. They landed on gummy candy, fun office supplies, DBT materials, and a laminated picture of Taylor Swift singing her new song “Florida!!!”

“A lot of us are giant Taylor Swift fans here at the clinic, so that felt very on-brand,” Gretchen says. “And then Seattle is known for DBT. We also love gummy candy, and office supplies are our love language.”

Nashville team members received Tastykakes, office supplies, and Phillies gear from Philadelphia. Atlanta sent a package including peach jam, Georgia peanuts, Atlanta stickers, and personalized notes, while Tampa sent Atlanta team members Tampa Bay Lightning swag, snacks, and keychains.

“All the keychains had positive messages written on them about Tampa or Rogers or mental health. We loved it!” says Nathan Butzen, PsyD, Atlanta director of outpatient services. “It was really positive for my team to experience the love from Tampa and realize that we have a sister clinic who was thinking about us and is working towards the same goals as we are every day.”

“Technically, that’s the point of One Rogers,” Gretchen says. “We felt appreciated and cared for.”
