‘I owe them my everything’: Former Silver Lake patient shares how compassionate care led to recovery

A former Oconomowoc patient is still feeling grateful.

Brian attended the Mental Health Recovery program at the Silver Lake clinic more than a year and a half ago. He wanted his team to know how their care changed his life, so he wrote this letter:

“I’ll start with the most important part: Rogers Behavioral Health saved my life. For years and years, I struggled with depression and anxiety. As a man, it can be difficult to recognize when you need help, and even more difficult to reach out and get the help you need.

During the pandemic, my employment transitioned to work from home, and the environment caused me to spiral. The days melted into one another, and my mental health deteriorated. It came to a point where I knew I needed to do something. I made the call to Rogers, and it was the best call I ever made. Every single person I interacted with was supportive and helpful, making intake a stress-free process. During the program, the staff displayed remarkable empathy and exemplary care. Everything is curated to cultivate an environment of healing and self-discovery.

It isn’t easy, it IS work, the work of healing and wellness. But it’s the most important work you’ll ever do. I am so thankful to the nurses, therapists, and counselors at Rogers. I owe them my everything.” ~ Brian M

Former members of Brian’s care team were grateful to receive the message.

Hearing from Brian gives me great encouragement and serves as a reminder that the work we do in mental health can serve someone for a lifetime, beyond the few weeks spent in treatment.” ~ Courtney Pflughoeft, MSN, RN, APNP, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

“It is so gratifying to get such positive feedback from patients who are able to live a more healthful and worthwhile life after attending our treatment program. There is great joy in providing care for our vulnerable patients and seeing their success in managing the difficult conditions they are experiencing.“~ Jane Schulz, RN
