Votes are now being accepted for the 2020 iaedp Imagine Me Beyond What You See body image art competition.

Our entry “Home Sweet Home” was created by art therapist Lacie Timm, who has won first place or the professional’s choice award in the competition several times over the years – including Lacie’s first place entry “Boys in Dresses” last year.

This is now the 10th year of the competition, which originally started as an art competition using mannequins. Beginning this year, the competition also accepts entries that use more forms of visual art, mixed media, poetry or spoken word, music, and dance or performance art.

“I was especially excited for our 2020 entry due to the fresh view on what submissions could include,” Lacie says. “The art was no longer limited to imitate human form and that opened up infinite creative pathways. Residents had already decided to create homes that would come together and build one form, but with the alteration of what was accepted, we changed our format. The homes no longer needed to be stacked and conformed to fit the guidelines. We could stabilize them individually, showcasing the time and care that went into each piece separately while creating a broader picture.”

Winners for the 2020 competition will be revealed at the iaedp annual symposium in late March.
