Set your 2023 career planning and development goals

With the start of 2023, now is the perfect time to set your career planning and development goals for the new year.

How to get started

“Even small steps can make a difference, especially if they create momentum for additional positive actions,” says Stephen Fletcher, career planning and development consultant.

A great first step is to schedule a career conversation with your supervisor. Talk about your values and goals and how they influence your career decision-making.

Furthermore, consider a few career development activities such as pursuing a stretch goal, identifying a skill to sharpen, or working toward a new certification or license.

Stephen suggests picking two or three that you can accomplish yet are challenging enough to be meaningful. Then, select your top choice and draft a meaningful SMART goal to help you accomplish it.
