Rogers was once again a strong supporter of OCD Awareness Week with decorations, encouraging signs, themed days for team members, and community events to help spread understanding and recognize the difficulties faced by those who live with OCD.

Set by the IOCDF, this year’s theme was “Face your fear,” which is something the team in Appleton integrated into all their activities. Maria Recker, behavioral specialist, organized the local care team in Appleton to take photos of themselves facing their fears, whether that be snakes, spiders, contamination, eye drops, or other phobias. Photos were displayed on a wall to give patients encouragement.

“I thought we as staff should especially be willing to practice what we preach and do something really uncomfortable, because we are asking it of the patients every day all day,” says Maria. “I think it is good to remind ourselves just how hard that is, and I think it’s good for the patients to see that we are right there with them and willing do the hard stuff too.”

Community events were held across the country, including several panel discussions, movie screenings, tours of mock exposure rooms, and other informative activities.
