Feige Bates overcomes obstacles to bring compassion, empathy to role at Rogers
07/27/20 02:20:pmAfter facing many obstacles during her childhood, Feige Bates, a patient access specialist at Rogers, was determined to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Feige’s story was recently featured in an article in Alverno Magazine, where she spoke about her struggles with bullying, public speaking, and culture shock and how those challenges led her to pursue a career in mental health at Rogers.
Feige graduated from Alverno College in 2019 with a degree in psychology. Just a few weeks into her internship with Rogers, Feige was hired as a full-time employee, bringing to fruition an aspiration she’d had since her junior year in high school to work at Rogers. She says hearing from peers who had received care at Rogers as well as what she learned from her father, who worked as a psychologist at Rogers, ultimately made Rogers the perfect fit for her goals.
“I wanted to work here because I believed in the mission and Rogers’ dedication to patients and employees,” Feige explains. “I try to utilize my experiences every day while working with patients and potential patients by embracing my compassion and empathy and directing it toward those who are calling out for our help.”
Reflecting on her own experiences, Feige says it’s important for Rogers employees to always remember the needs of patients who are struggling, especially during the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a vulnerable and unhappy time for many of our patients and they are trusting us to support them and give them healthy and positive attention. We have the opportunity of a lifetime that may save a life or give someone a second chance.”
