Summit Police officer awarded for compassion, connecting with adolescents in crisis
06/27/24 01:00:pmSummit Police Officer Abby Owens was awarded a special commendation on June 17 for her work with adolescent residents at the Rogers’ Oconomowoc campus.
Officer Owens is often the responding officer when adolescents in treatment are feeling overwhelmed and assistance is needed. Despite the challenging situations she is called to, Officer Owens, a three-year veteran with the Police Department, always meets patients with empathy and patience.
Summit Police Chief Michael Hartert initiated training in trauma-informed care for the entire Summit Police Department, and Officer Owens is the embodiment of that approach.
Chief Hartert shared, “Officer Owens uses her qualities of empathy and compassion in unique ways to form a connection with those in crisis. She has the gift of being able to project her caring nature to the patient.”
Those comments were echoed by Jenna Ramljak, manager of residential operations for the adolescent program.
“Officer Owens truly meets patients where they are, attempting to understand their current situation as well as life experience,” Jenna said. “We know our residents, even in their most difficult moments, will be treated with dignity and compassion when the Summit Police Department responds.”
Oconomowoc team members say they’re grateful to Officer Owens and the Summit Police Department for the exceptional services they provide.
