Bill Webster, RN for the residential weekend shift at Rogers, once again played the part of emcee for the annual trivia night for the Lake Area Free Clinic that was held on January 26. The evening was attended by more than 200 participants on 27 different teams. Among the participants were our very own Dr. Mike Miller and Dr. Dana Marlowe.

Almost $7,000 was raised this year for the free clinic, including a $500 donation from Rogers. Bill was not only the emcee for the evening, a duty he’s held for several years, but he also worked as the question writer and coordinator for the involvement of several Lake Country Episcopal churches.

His involvement has also led to more trivia hosting and question writing opportunities, which he enjoys as a fan of trivia and a self-described “insufferable blowhard who is more than willing to run his yap at the slightest provocation.” But mostly, it’s his strong belief in community service that keeps him coming back. Bill says he hopes to see the event grow further (it has already doubled in size since he began hosting) and that Rogers will have a larger presence among the trivia teams.

“One thing that was neat was that we had two of our Rogers doctors on a team,” he says. “Both Dr. Miller and Dr. Marlowe from the Herington Recovery Center were on a team. Dr. Miller actually participated in 2017 as well. So perhaps next year we will have an even larger contingent of Rogers trivia mavens.”

The funds raised at the trivia night and other events are used to help the Lake Area Free Clinic serve approximately 3,000 people in the Lake country area every year who are without insurance or the means to pay for basic medical care. More than $30,000 has been raised in the six years that the free clinic has been the beneficiary of the trivia event.

Next year’s trivia night is scheduled for January 25, 2019.
