Celebrated since 1989, September is National Recovery Month — a time to raise awareness of substance use and support for those struggling, educate about new evidence-based treatment and practices that can save lives, and honor the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery possible.

This year, Rogers is proud to sponsor and participate in Mobilize Recovery Across America, a cross-country bus tour for people in recovery, family members, and recovery allies.

“I believe we all have a story about how addiction has impacted us personally or someone close to us,” says John Boyd, PsyD, CEO Hospital Division. “That’s why we partner with like-minded organizations: to increase awareness around the needs of those facing addiction. It’s core to our Mission.”

During a stop in Manitowoc on September 12, Dr. Boyd, in addition to Janet Gatlin, director of outreach, and Michael Beyer, West Allis outreach representative, served on panels to share their expertise in supporting recovery. Rogers also sponsored a resource table for the event. Manitowoc was the only Wisconsin city chosen for the 27-city tour. (Please see photo slideshow above.)

Additionally, Rogers participated in events in Denver; Minneapolis; Marietta, Wisconsin; and Atlanta. Representatives will also be in Naperville, Illinois, and Paducah, Kentucky, this month. Watch for a roundup of Rogers’ participation across the country in next month’s Insight.

Meanwhile, Rogers’ employees are honoring the month with special events at their clinics and within their communities as noted below. We also invite you to reflect on how the treatment we provide has changed the lives of former Rogers’ patients by reading their comments in the below slideshow.

Appleton

The Appleton clinic is holding themed dress-up days for patients and employees, including Decade Day, Pajama Day, and Wear Purple Day every Friday in September in recognition of the official color of National Recovery Month. Additionally, several former Mental Health and Addiction Recovery patients are returning to speak to groups. Employees are also raising awareness by posting substance use and mental health facts and recovery quotes from past patients around the clinic.

Oconomowoc

The Silver Lake clinics in Oconomowoc are also holding themed-dress up days for patients and employees, including Motivational Shirt Day, Fun Hat Day, Mismatch Day (because the road to recovery never looks perfect), Sports Day, and Wear Purple Day. Additionally, team members plan to work with patients on starting a binder of letters to future patients.

The 2nd Annual Recovery Celebration Picnic

Employees are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Recovery Celebration Picnic on Saturday, September 17, starting at 10 am at Banting Park in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The picnic includes a softball tournament, volleyball, bean bag toss, basketball, tennis, a kids’ playground, resource tables, music, food, and more.
