Outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management now available

10/17/23 08:01:pm

As of Monday, October 16, Rogers is offering outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management. This new virtual service is available to current Rogers patients of all ages who reside in the state of Wisconsin.

This new offering starts with a psychiatric evaluation and a focused discussion about each patient’s medication options. Signa Meyers, vice president of strategic initiatives, explains the impact the program will have on the community.

“We know that there’s a great demand in our communities for these services, so we’re excited to offer them here as an option for patients,” explains Signa. “With medication management, we’ll now be able to ensure that patients leaving our care don’t have a gap in their ability to get the medications they need, which in turn provides a great way for us to follow up with patients, reduce their risk of readmission, and even allow them to step up to a higher level of care more efficiently if they need it.”

While phase one of this new level of care will be available only to internal referrals, future phases are expected to expand this offering to members of the community and offer an in-person option.

Treatment teams are encouraged to begin discharge planning with patients early and consider whether they may be a good candidate for outpatient psychiatric services and medication management.

“We ask that treatment teams work with each patient to determine if this valuable service is right for their situation,” says Christopher Lowden, MD, associate medical director, Outpatient Services, Central Service Area, and senior medical director of well-being. “While we start virtually, we will be focusing on residents of Wisconsin who do not have a current psychiatrist or are seeking to transition care from their current outpatient psychiatrist. Patients will need to have reliable access to attend virtual appointments safely.”
