Headshot (August 2022).jpgAs chief compliance officer, Colleen Kelly is responsible for the direction and oversight of Rogers’ compliance program.

“My job includes coordinating all compliance activities and plans across the System, including the Foundation,” Colleen explains. “Each year, we have a list of focus areas, projects, and other continuous activities to help anticipate, prevent, and monitor risks and opportunities, which if done well, ultimately enables Rogers to continue to be a principled, nationally recognized performer in behavioral health. Doing the right things at the right time by the right people is what compliance is all about.”

Colleen enjoys collaborating with other departments across every aspect of Rogers’ operations.

“In healthcare, there will always be new and changing legislation, regulations, and innovation to keep up with,” she says. “A lot of the work that the Compliance team does is ‘offstage’ by researching, assessing implications to the organization, and formulating compliant, sustainable solutions. When Compliance does a good job behind the scenes, we build trust and help optimize performance when it comes to patient care.”

Joining Rogers in September 2021, Colleen has worked in healthcare the majority of her career. She brings experience in healthcare compliance, governance, risk, and audit, including nearly two decades in progressive leadership roles for Children’s Wisconsin and QuadMed. She holds certifications in internal auditing, risk management assurance, healthcare compliance, and healthcare privacy compliance.

As a Wisconsin native, Colleen says she was familiar with Rogers and has always been impressed with the organization’s history and work. She learned of the job opportunity through a friend.

“While I wasn’t proactively looking for new career opportunities at the time, like many others, I was definitely seeing the world a little differently in light of COVID,” she says. “It gave me clarity and new perspective about how I could transfer and leverage my previous experiences in a more fulfilling way. I felt like it was meant to be.”

Colleen says our Mission motivates her every day.

“Our care teams help restore the health and well-being of people when they are at their most vulnerable,” she says. “There is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling to me than to be able to contribute to something that is bigger than oneself. The work Rogers’ team does impacts our patients, their families and loved ones, and communities at large, which is pretty amazing.”

Colleen and her husband, Shawn, have been married nearly 18 years and have three children: 8-year-old Declan, 10-year-old McKenna, and 16-year-old Tim. They also have a black lab named Mable.

One fun fact about Colleen is she loves to play soccer, which she has been playing her entire life with the exception of when she was pregnant with each of her kiddos. She says it’s a great stress reliever.

Colleen and her family are looking forward to going to Orlando in July to watch their oldest son play in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Boys’ National Championships for volleyball.
