Michelle A. Bensen, MD, FASAM

Addiction Specialist

Michelle A. Bensen, MD, FASAM, is a physician board-certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine providing diagnostic and medical care for adults at the Herrington Recovery Center. Dr. Bensen received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her internships and residencies at Marshfield Clinic/Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital. She attended the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, and this training served as foundation for her integrated, holistic approach to patient care.

Dr. Bensen has extensive practice experience working as a specialist in the areas of non-opioid, multidisciplinary pain management and addiction in the Minocqua area of northern Wisconsin. Prior to joining the medical staff at Rogers, Dr. Bensen served as medical director of Koinonia, a residential treatment center in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. She also served as medical director of the HOPE Consortium, a State of Wisconsin grant-funded initiative to provide services to people with opioid addiction for a five county / three tribal region in northern Wisconsin. Dr. Bensen has provided continuing education to physicians and nurses as a trainer in the Safe and Competent Opioid Prescribing Education (SCOPE) of Pain course, which helps medical professionals safely and effectively manage patients with chronic pain. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
