(Oconomowoc, Wisc.) Marybeth Herbst-Flagstad has been named the first general counsel for Rogers Behavioral Health. In this new role, she will oversee risk management in addition to providing general counsel on legal matters for Rogers Behavioral Health System and Rogers Memorial Hospital.

Rogers Behavioral Health, with 10 locations in five states, is considered one of the largest, private behavioral health systems in the country.

Herbst-Flagstad joins Rogers with more than 13 years of experience in legal counsel in the areas of risk management, compliance and business operations within healthcare, business and tribal law. She most recently served as attorney for the Forest County Potawatomi Community and, prior to that, was senior counsel for Assurant Health in Milwaukee. She is a graduate of the Marquette University Law School, the Marquette University Graduate School with a master’s degree in theology, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a bachelor’s in French and international relations.

“We believe the addition of in-house legal counsel will provide us with critical flexibility for convenient access to Marybeth’s insight and skills within our behavioral healthcare operations,” said Patrick T. Hammer, president and  CEO of Rogers Behavioral Health System. “We welcome her to the senior administrative team for Rogers and look forward to working with her as we continue our efforts to help meet the demands for quality care for those facing mental illness and addiction.”

“I was attracted to the position at Rogers because I want to further the values of excellence in both patient care and the employee experience: the core values of Rogers,” said Ms. Herbst-Flagstad. “As someone who has practiced in-house law for over a dozen years, I have seen its benefits. I've also learned it’s not only one’s legal knowledge or contracting ability which is key in resolving situations. It’s our sense of humanity for the other person that leads to amicable, creative solutions. Rogers’ values fit within the same parameters of how I practice law.”
